XXI Ibero-American Summit” in Paraguay to Feature Dominican Exhibit Entitled “Innovation in Education and Training”
September 27, 2011
GFDD and FUNGLODE will support the XXI Ibero-American Summit taking place in Asuncion, Paraguay on October 28 and 29, 2011 under the theme “Transformation of the State and Development”.
Established in 1991, the Ibero-American Summit is a forum for facilitating regional cooperation and concerted political action on issues of concern to Latin American countries as well as Spain and Portugal. It is attended annually by the Heads of State
and Governments of its member countries – which comprise the Spanish- or Portuguese-speaking sovereign nations of Europe and the Americas – and serves to strengthen economic and political ties between the community of nations sharing common languages and cultures.
This conference, which is sponsored by the Presidency of the Dominican Republic, and The Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) , is presented through FUNGLODE and GFDD’s
project Virtual Educa.
As in previous years, the Summit will include a special exhibition by the Government of the Dominican Republic entitled “Innovation in Education and Training”. The exhibit will showcase some of the most relevant and innovative initiatives which are now being implemented in educational institutions in Latin America and in the Caribbean. It aims to demonstrate that development is possible even in very unfavorable conditions, and
that Information Communications Technologies (ICTs) (especially their relevant use towards social commitment), allow for the breaking down of barriers, the overcoming of isolation, and offer alternatives to children and youth for self-improvement through education.
The Summit’s accomplishments and aspirations are largely indicative of the community’s commitment to multilateralism and collective diplomacy. There is also a focus on fostering new
initiatives in educational institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development and FUNGLODE, who will be represented by GFDD’s New York Director Yamile Eusebio, share in the aims and goals of the Summit that education is indispensible for sustainable development and long-term prosperity in the region.
