“Vuelos Prohibidos”, an ICAIC and Funglode Co-production, Premieres in New York
March 25, 2016
The most recent production of the Cuban director Rigoberto López, "Vuelos Prohibidos", will premiere April 25 at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The director and cast will attend the premiere, along with the President of Funglode/GFDD, Dr. Leonel Fernández, and the Executive Director of GFDD, Natasha Despotovic, institutions that organized the event in the Big Apple.
"Vuelos Prohibidos" tells the love story of Mario
and Monique, who meet when an unexpected storm causes the cancellation of their flights from Paris to Cuba, which leads them to become lovers in a hotel adjacent to the airport. There, between confessions and feelings, they will try to share their visions of Cuba, traveling between storms of truths, frustrations, doubts and hopes.
The Cuban singer Paulo Fernandez Gallo is the male protagonist, while French actress of Moroccan origin Sanâa Alaoui embodies Monique. Daysi
Granados, Mario Balmaseda and Manuel Porto complement the rest of the cast, whose purpose is to provide a story that "wants to be honest in its dialogue with our reality", in the words of the Cuban director.
Rigoberto López, screenwriter and director, will present the film in New York together with the screenwriter Julio Carranza and the actresses Sanâa Alaoui and Daysi Granados.
The story shows the contrasts of a country, between the
modernity of Vedado and Miramar, and the "other Havana", according to the director of the film. While the plot takes place in Paris, you can see images of the Caribbean island.
"Vuelos prohibidos" is a co-production of the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industry (ICAIC for its acronym in Spanish), with the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture of Cuba, and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) of the
Dominican Republic.
