UNADR Opens the 2013 MODOSI and NYDRMUN
November 30, 2012On Friday, November 30th, the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNADR), in association with Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and its sister organization in the United States, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), officially launched the third annual Dominican Model of the Inter-American System (MODOSI 2013) and the ninth annual edition of the Dominican Model of the United Nations in New York (NYDRMUN 2013).
The opening ceremony began with remarks by Mrs. Pilar Sandoval, Executive Director of UNADR, who thanked the special guests, Ms. Yamile Eusebio, Director of the New York office of the GFDD and
Ambassador Aníbal E. Quiñones, Representative of the Organization of American States (OAS) in the Dominican Republic, as well as faculty advisors and academic authorities, parents, guardians, students and representatives of the press, for attending the event.
Immediately thereafter, the video Incidencias MODOSI 2012 (Highlights of MODOSI 2012) was screened. It provided an overview of the most striking developments
that took place during the second edition of the event.
Abel Torres, General Secretary of MODOSI 2013, thanked the audience and provided words of encouragement and details on the innovations that the third edition will offer. After Mr. Torres’ speech, the preliminary draft agenda and the preliminary list of committees and issues to be addressed were presented.
The opening ceremony continued with the screening of the video Incidencias NYDRMUN 2012, after which Cristina Zapata, Secretary General of NYDRMUN 2013, addressed the audience to describe her experiences and expectations for the 2013 edition of NYDRMUN, as well as to present the preliminary draft schedule and the list of committees and issues to be addressed.
A final session of questions and answers, allowing interaction with the public, concluded the event along with a contest in which students
participated to win scholarships to attend the MODOSI 2013 and NYDRMUN 2013.
