U.S. Launch of the Diccionario Cultural Dominicano
October 3, 2017
On October 14, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will provide support for the U.S. launch of the Diccionario Cultural Dominicano, an encyclopedic dictionary which takes readers on a journey through the Dominican cultural space.
This U.S. debut will take place in New Jersey, home to the second-highest population of Dominicans in the United States. At the debut, author Jimmy Sierra and collaborators Reynaldo Disla,
Héctor Martínez, and León Félix Batista will highlight their inspirations and discuss what they found most interesting when conducting their research. During this special occasion, Dr. Leonel Fernández, former President of the Dominican Republic, will also be present to provide remarks.
Home to abundant historical sites, colonial architecture, and a vibrant art, music, and film scene, the Dominican Republic has made substantial cultural contributions to the world at large. Keeping track of these is no easy task, but that’s just what Jimmy Sierra, along with collaborators Reynaldo Disla, Héctor Martínez Fernández, and León Félix Batista have done in their recent publication.
With a total of 1,164
entries, the Diccionario Cultural Dominicano synthesizes key Dominican cultural figures, groups, institutions, and events, making them easily accessible to anyone interested in learning more about people and events that have shaped the trajectory of the Quisqueyanos. A Funglode publication, it features a prologue written by Dr. Leonel Fernández, former President of the Dominican Republic.
