Training Session on Environmental Law for Judges from Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica

Konbit Pou Ayiti (KONPAY) in Haiti, will organize a training program for judges from the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica on environmental law. The objective of the initiative is to equip judicial professionals with the knowledge and tools necessary to ensure that legal protections pertaining to biodiversity, conservation management, forestry and contamination control be upheld and applied. The program will take place at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo, Dominican
Republic.

This session forms part of a three year program, funded by the John D. & Catherine T. Mac Arthur Foundation, which began January of this year and will continue until December 2010. During this period, the collaborating institutions will develop, and adapt to each country, reference materials on environmental matters for judicial professionals, in an effort to strengthen work being realized by local institutions in
the area of environmental conservation. Materials will be created in Spanish, English and French and will be circulated throughout the legal community.

As part of their commitment to environmental protection, GFDD and FUNGLODE develop national and international projects and organize conferences and forums designed to promote awareness and improved understanding of environmental issues.
