Funglode’s Coordinator of the Training Activities Program, Catherine Florentino, offered Funglode’s and its sister
organization in the United States, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development’s (GFDD) welcoming remarks.
The LEA Plan Manager, Rosario Vásquez, explained that the Geography Week is an annual project that Listín Diario has organized since 1994, with the goal of raising the awareness of the Dominican society regarding the sustainable use and the preservation of the natural resources. She also underscored the importance of geography for the social, cultural

About the Geography Week in the Dominican Republic
The Geography Awareness Week is celebrated in the Dominican Republic since
1994, with the official endorsement of the Ministry of Education. Given its important tradition in the teaching of this discipline through the LEA Plan, this year the 25th edition will be held from March 12 to March 16.
The overall objective of the Geography Week is to promote the importance of the geographical knowledge, not only in school but also within the family and in the community. Its goal is to educate citizens so that they are able to understand and discuss
pressing social and environmental issues, and to make them aware of the rights and obligations that they have as citizens.
