InteRDom Announces Start of Spring Semester Enrollment
The internship program, InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), announces the start of the Spring Semester (January 5 – April 24, 2009) enrollment period, August 1, 2008. The deadline to submit applications is November 7, 2008.

InteRDom Summer 2008 Closing Ceremony Takes Place at Casa de Teatro

InteRDom Excursion to Saona Island and Altos de Chavon
On August 2nd, the InteRDom Program organized an excursion to Saona Island and Altos de Chavón for the 2008 summer interns. During the two and a half hour bus ride to Bayahibe, the group’s tour guide informed the students about the vegetation, wildlife and growing tourist industry of the Eastern region of the country.

On Monday, July 21, 2008, InteRDom began its summer seminar series with the forum, “Aspects Relative to Haitian Immigration in the Dominican Republic.” Natanael Concepción opened the night by introducing the presenters to a crowd representing over nine organizations and ten countries.

InteRDom Organizes Weekend Excursion to Las Galeras
During the previous weekend, the InteRDom Program organized a trip to the Samaná Penninsula for an overnight stay in Las Galeras, renown worldwide for its exquisite virgin landscapes. Travelling along the newly constructed Samaná highway, the group had the opportunity to view a cross section of the nation’s countryside. Upon arriving at the hotel Villa Serena, students swam, explored the beach, rode bikes along trails that paralleled the coastline and relaxed while enjoying the
scenic grounds of the hotel.

InteRDom Offers Seminar on Haitian Immigrants in the Dominican Republic
The internship program, InteRDom, in partnership with the Pan American Development Foundation, will present as part of their 2008 Summer Academic Program, “Haitian Immigrants in the Dominican Republic.” The event will take place July 21st and 28th, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, on the second floor of FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo.

InteRDom Program Organizes Cultural Trip to Salcedo and Santiago
On Saturday, June 28, 2008, the InteRDom program organized its second major excursion of the summer, a cultural trip to visit the Mirabal Sisters Museum in Salcedo and the Centro Leon in Santiago. During the three-hour bus ride to the interior, tour guide, Tirso Cabra, recounted the story of the Mirabal Sisters. Among the most famous female protagonists throughout Dominican history, the sisters where ordered to be killed by former dictator, Rafael Trujillo.

InteRDom Students Become More Acquainted with the Intricacies of their Summer Internships
On June 10, 2008, as part of the week-long orientation session, InteRDom’s Business Day acquainted students with the intricacies of their internships. During the event, representatives from participating organizations and businesses presented in-depth descriptions of the programs and projects with which the interns would be working.
