Dr. Leonel Fernández to Be Keynote Speaker at ECLAC Event in Costa Rica

Together with hundreds of sustainable development advocates and government delegates, GFDD participated in the 2016 High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2016), which was held under the theme ‘Ensuring that no one is left behind”” at UN Headquarters in New York City from July 11 to 20, 2016.

UNA-DR Announces Conferencia Internacional de Las Américas (CILA) 2016 Taking Place in October
The 12th Conferencia Internacional de Las Américas (CILA) 2016, to be held from October 26 to 30 in the Convention Center Hotel Barceló Bávaro in Punta Cana, Domincan Republic, is the largest student activity in the region, where students participate in committees with preselected topics directly from the official agenda of the United Nations and agencies part of the simulation. At the conference, young people have the opportunity to make speeches, negotiate, develop strategies and
solve global problems through dialogue and consensus.

Together with hundreds of disability advocates and government delegates, GFDD and its esteemed partner Fundación Francina Hungría participated in the 9th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), one of the largest and most diverse international meetings on disability in the world from June 14-16, 2016 at United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

GFDD/Funglode organized and moderated a panel discussion at the 2016 United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA USA) Leadership Council today, in its capacity as the Chair of the UNA USA Council of Organizations (UNA USA COO) Environmental Subcommittee. The event, entitled Beyond the Road to Paris-Action for Climate Change, was a seminar and panel discussion on climate change led by Marc Jourdan of the Global Foundation for Democracy and
Development (GFDD). With the participation of international science and policy experts, it sought to inform UNA USA chapter members about the regional impacts of climate change, both in the US and the Dominican Republic, and the efforts made in Paris by the international community to help tackle this global issue.

“The UN’s Science Technology and Innovation Forum must be a vehicle for inclusion” States UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon at the 1st Session of the STI Forum
GFDD was present during the first annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI Forum) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which took place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday June 7 to Tuesday June 8. During the conference, representatives of UN Member States and Major Groups and Other Stakeholders heard presentations from panelists and engaged in an interactive dialogue with several eminent keynote speakers including
scientists, technologists and innovators. They presented disruptive changes in science, technology and innovations that are crucial for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
