UN Secretary General António Guterres Takes Oath of Office and Pledges to Work for Peace, Sustainable Development and a Reformed United Nations
António Guterres, Secretary-General-designate of the United Nations, took the oath of office at UN headquarters on Monday December 12, for his five-year term which begins on 1 January 2017. The oath was administered by Peter Thomson, President of the 71st session of the General Assembly.

Seeking to highlight the impact of climate change on children’s health, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development in partnership with the United Nations Association of America (UNA-USA) Council of Organizations (COO) and the Institute for Life Sciences Collaboration hosted a panel discussion at the UN Church Center on Thursday November 17, 2016. The event was divided into three segments including a climate panel with remarks by Marc Jourdan of GFDD on the outcome
of the recent UN Climate Conference in Marrakesh and Jon Lourie of Duane Morris LLP who considered the degree to which climate change is tackled under US environmental law.

GFDD/Funglode is Officially Accredited to the UN Climate Change Community following Its Attendance of the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC
GFDD/Funglode was present at the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Marrakesh, Morocco from Monday November 7 to Friday November 11, 2016. GFDD’s UN Programs and Outreach Manager, Marc Jourdan attended the session together with twenty thousand other climate change experts from across the globe, stemming from both the public and the private sector. During GFDD’s attendance of the main plenary
session, Salaheddine Mezouar, COP 22 President, confirmed the official accreditation confirmation of GFDD as an observer organization of the UNFCCC process.

More than 1000 Students Get Ready to Discuss Sustainable Development at CILA 2016
The United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR) together with Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and its sister institution in the United States, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will hold the twelfth annual edition of its recognized International Conference of the Americas (CILA) 2016. CILA is the student event on global issues of greatest importance in Latin America and the Caribbean.
