International Conference of the Americas (CILA 2013) to Celebrate its Ninth Session
Sunday, October 27, 2013, marks the opening of the Ninth Session of the International Conference of the Americas (CILA 2013) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana.

GFDD Representative Elected to United Nations NGO Executive Committee of Financing for Development
In recognition of GFDD’s efforts in the areas of Financing for Development (FfD), Global Foundation for Democracy and Development has been elected to the United Nations NGO Executive Committee on FfD by unanimous vote on October 2, 2013 for a two-year term. The new role will provide an opportunity to network and dialogue at the UN with those working on FfD issues and collaborate with the global network of FFD organizations.

GFDD and FUNGLODE Panel at UNHQ Addresses Strategies for Poverty Reduction and Eradication
On Thursday, October 17, 2013, in honor of the United Nations International Day of Eradication of Poverty, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Mission to the UN, organized a Panel Discussion entitled: “Local Productivity, Entrepreneurship and Employment: Essential Tools for Poverty Eradication.”

GFDD and FUNGLODE convene a panel on an “Innovative Financing for the Post-2015 Agenda: The Implications of a Financial Transaction Tax”
The first UN International Conference on Financing for Development was held in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2002. Fifty Heads of State and over 200 Ministers participated, as well as the private sector, civil society, trade, economic and monetary organizations.

United Nations Panel to Address Innovative Financing for the Post 2015 Agenda During HLD on Financing for Development, October 7 and 8
GFDD/FUNGLODE and partner institution UBUNTU – World Forum on Civil Society Networks, the Dominican Republic Mission to the United Nations, together with the Committee on Financing for Development will host a side event entitled “Innovative Financing for the Post-2015 Agenda: The implications of a Financial Transaction Tax”, to be held within the framework of the Sixth High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development taking place October 7 – 8, 2013, at the UN Headquarters in New
York.

GFDD Approved for Association with United Nations Department of Public Information
On September 11, 2013, the UN Non-Governmental Organizations Committee announced the approval of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development for association with the Department of Public Information (DPI).

UNA-DR presents the Ninth Annual CILA 2013
The United Nations Dominican Association (UNA-DR), in association with Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), presented the Ninth Annual International Conference of the Americas (CILA 2013) in Santo Domingo.

UNA-DR, in Association with FUNGLODE and GFDD Announce Winner of 5th Dominican Youth Delegate to UN Program
Dr. Richard Bidó Medina was selected to be the 5th Dominican Youth Delegate to the UN, as announced on Sept 6 by Executive Director of UNA-DR Mr. Emil Chireno who stressed the importance of these types of initiatives for young Dominicans to gain knowledge, development opportunities and bolster the DR’s reputation.

Announcement of Change of UN Accreditation Status for GFDD and FUNGLODE
On July 18, 2013, within the framework of Substantive Session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development was officially granted special consultative status with ECOSOC.
