Successful Closing of the Sixth Edition of Virtual Educa

On Friday, the 11 of March, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) held the closing ceremony of the sixth edition of Virtual Educa Caribe (VEC) 2011, the most important Caribbean annual regional event in education and technology. The closing ceremony fell under the responsibility of
the meeting general coordinator, Yamile Eusebio, along with the President of Virtual Educa Caribe, Ms. Ligia Amada Melo, and the General Secretary of Virtual Educa, José María Antón.

During her speech, Eusebio welcomed the continued support that the Dominican Republic provided for the smooth running of the event and announced that the next edition of VEC will be held in March of next year, in Santiago.

Over 300 educators
from primary, secondary and higher education, as well as representatives of Dominican businesses and non-profit organizations, attended the meeting.

This year”s edition of VEC was held at FUNGLODE’s headquarters, from March 9th through the 11th. The opening session was attended by Brazilian academic Heitor Gurgulino de Souza, who was the Rector of the United Nations University and Assistant Secretary General of the same multilateral organization.

The first day of the meeting included lectures on the "Use of mobile applications in education," and "Innovation in the management of educational institutions." Panels also discussed "Innovation and commitment in Virtual Educa projects," "Education in virtual spaces: Teachers’ role in the new environments," "Corporate social responsibility: education as a priority component,"
"Technology and its impact on Dominican youth," "Quality: A constant goal in education," and" National research and education networks: An important resource for research in the Dominican Republic."

The next day began with a lecture on "Information and knowledge society in the era of the Web 2.0: A study and research proposal in the Dominican Republic", and followed by activities such as
"Open Innovation, Social Media and Cloud Computing: New Pillars in Education," "INTEL LEARN: An Innovation Strategy in Digital Literacy," "National Entrepreneurial Program MESCyT: Capacity Building in Entrepreneurship in Dominican Universities," "The Use of Social Media on ITLA Students," "English Immersion: Removing the Language Barrier in a Globalized Education," "Early Stimulation of
Neurological Development: Innovating in Initial Training," and "Virtualization of Learning Environments," among others.
