Social Work Students Learn About Internship and Research Opportunities at NYU Master’s Level Social Work Job Fair

InteRDom representatives promoted internship and research opportunities in the Dominican Republic to students and graduates of New York area social work programs on Wednesday, May 9th at the NYU Master’s Level Social Work Job Fair.  

The fair was sponsored by the Metro New York Social Work Consortium, which comprises the social work departments from 10 area colleges and universities: Adelphi, Columbia, Fordham, Hunter, Lehman, Long
Island, NYU, Stony Brook, Touro and Yeshiva, all of which were represented at the fair by over 300 students.

Representatives of both the Fellows and Internship programs spoke with students and graduates specifically interested applying their studies to an international context. Many of the students who approached the booth had previous international
experience and were completing a global tract in their programs.  They brought unique insight from other parts of the world to the context of development in the Dominican Republic.  

Social work students are particularly valuable for both the InteRDom Internship and Fellows Programs because of the interdisciplinary nature of the field.  Graduates have exposure to the fields of economics, sociology, health and medicine, education, politics
and psychology, among other things, which all happen to be key areas of development in the Dominican Republic.  Students of social work can bring extra insight on how to strengthen programs and policies in these areas.

There was an evident interest in the student body in international opportunities and research, so a particular spotlight was placed on the Fellows program, as many students approached the stand interested in research opportunities related to
the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

InteRDom Internships is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at
a local university.
