Over 200 Students Participate in MODOSI 2012

Over two hundred students participated in the Second Edition of the Dominican Model Inter-American System, celebrated February 8-10, 2012 at FUNGLODE Headquarters and Central Bank of the Dominican Republic’s Jesús María Troncoso Auditorium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The highly anticipated event was organized by Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and the United Nations
Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR), in partnership with the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Youth Outreach and Development Program of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The conference simulated the interactive sessions of the General Assembly, the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States, the Summit of the Americas and the General Assembly of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank.
During the closing ceremony, participating international dignitaries Ambassador Aníbal Enrique Quiñónez, Representative to the OAS in the Dominican Republic, and Nelly Robinson, Coordinator of the Model OAS Program, commended the youth delegates for their enthusiasm and active participation during the working sessions.
The ceremony included a video
presentation of the 2012 Conference, highlighting the accomplishments achieved during the three days of working sessions. The video also featured testimonies and observations of student delegates, international experts and staff involved in the various committees represented during the Model.
Luis Joaquín Ortega, MODOSI 2012 Secretary General, presented an overall summary of the conference, underscoring the deliberations of each committee and the conclusions arrived at.
He expressed his satisfaction regarding the outcomes of the three days of intense negotiations. Mr. Ortega’s intervention was followed by the distribution of recognitions bestowed to distinguished delegations.
To conclude the event, UNA-DR Executive Director, Pilar Sandoval, officially recognized the collaboration the authorities and experts of the OAS that were instrumental in the successful realization of the 2012 Model.
