Over 100 Players Join GFDD/Funglode VI Golf Classic

More than 100 golf players participated yesterday in the 6th Golf Tournament at Glen Head Country Club in New York. In a relaxed atmosphere, the players enjoyed perfect weather for playing golf and a day full of activities that culminated with a gala dinner attended by the President of GFDD and Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández. The event is part of GFDD’s initiatives to promote fundraising to support the implementation of a variety of projects, while spending time
with partners and friends of GFDD. The kickoff of the tournament was conducted, once again, by Dominican world-famous former baseball player Juan Marichal, while Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of GFDD, gave the welcome remarks.

After the tournament, players and friends of GFDD attended the award ceremony and gala dinner.
Despotovic welcomed them and thanked all the sponsors that contributed to the success of the event, among them Ace, Bimbo, Café Rubio, Café Santo Domingo, Carolina Rice, CBA, Clinica Tapia, Compare Food, Derle Farm, Edwin Travel, Fine Fare Supermarkets, Frito Lay, Furco Foods, General Trading Co, Hispanic Indoor Media, Inca Cola, Key Food, Key Food Coop, Mission Food, Nebraskaland, Ortiz y Compres, Ozone Refrigeration, Popular Community Bank, Porkis Food, Ob Car Wash, R Best, Sv Produce,

After a presentation of GFDD’s 2014 highlights and a video showing the best shots of the tournament, Fuertes addressed the audience and announced the winners. José Ignacio Morales, El Artístico, creator of the original design of the trophies which are donated each year, was among the guests.

This event helped benefit GFDD/Funglode and its programs which support social, economic, and democratic development in the Dominican Republic. It also serves as a networking opportunity for high-ranking officials, industry leaders, business executives, and celebrities. Golf tournaments have hosted leading
individuals from the philanthropic field and prominent sports figures, along with others who have supported GFDD’s programs and projects.

The objective of this event is to benefit the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), its projects and programs promoting social, economic and democratic development in the Dominican Republic. GFDD is a private, 501(c)3, US registered not for profit, non-partisan organization, dedicated to promoting
collaboration between international institutions and the Dominican Republic, conducting research and analysis, providing educational and training programs and implementing development and exchange opportunities for Dominicans in the country and the diaspora, in areas critical to the advancement and modernization of the Dominican Republic. GFDD Executive Director Natasha Despotovic says that the tournament is a “GFDD tradition to share time with partners and friends and promote
fundraising in order to continue implementing a variety of projects geared toward the development of the Dominican Republic and Latin America.”
