Open-air Photo Exhibit: New Perspectives: Dominican Republic to open at The City College of New York this Fall
May 6, 2011
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) will host an open-air photo exhibit entitled New Perspectives: Dominican Republic, in collaboration with the CUNY Center for Dominican Studies Institute at The City College of New York, this coming Fall. An inaugural
reception will be held on campus on Tuesday, August 30th at 6:30 P.M. at 160 Convent, New York, New York 10031-9198 .
The exhibit will highlight a selection of 60 aerial images from the Dominican Republic and will be accessible to both students and the general public.
The now seasoned Photo Exhibit has been seen by tens of thousands since it opened in 2008 and has given the public the chance to learn more about the Dominican Republic and all
it has to offer. This exhibit has moved and delighted audiences both in the Dominican Republic (including Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata and Samaná), the USA (at the OAS in Washington DC and at the UN Headquarters in New York) and in the city of Barcelona, Spain.
This exhibit was inspired by the book New Perspectives: Dominican Republic that shows the Dominican Republic as it has never been seen before and features
an array of original aerial photographs of landscapes, people and situations that go far beyond the typical images associated with the country and portrays the diversity and beauty the country emanates.
GFDD/FUNGLODE, the institutions that promoted the creation of the book, under the leadership of its Editor-In-Chief Natasha Despotovic, felt the need to share this experience with the large Dominican community in Upper Manhattan for which purpose CUNY offers an ideal
location. This partnership between GFDD/FUNGLODE and CUNY will provide an invaluable opportunity to gather students and neighbors around this unique educational experience designed to broaden their vision, perception and national pride of a country that presents an infinite array of landscapes and evokes the same amount of emotions.
Both the book New Perspectives: Dominican Republic and the photo exhibit are projects of GFDD and FUNGLODE, non- profits registered in the
U.S. and the Dominican Republic, with the purpose of contributing to the social, economic and democratic development of the Dominican Republic. Both organizations were created, and are inspired by the vision of President Leonel Fernández, whom also serves as the Honorary President of each institution.
