June 3, 2009
Marco Herrera is the new Executive Director of Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE). His appointment was announced on Wednesday by the organization’s Honorary President, Dr. Leonel Fernández, during a small event held at FUNGLODE Headquarters in
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Herrera, a lawyer by profession, previously served as the Director of the Center for Democratic Studies up until this appointment. Mr. Herrera will replace Fréderic Emam-Zadé, who held the post for five years. Mr. Emam-Zadé will now head the establishment of an economic research center in coordination with the Brazil-based Gertulio Vargas Foundation.
When naming the new Executive
Director, Dr. Leonel Fernández thanked Emam-Zadé and recognized the excellent work he did during his years at the Foundation. “He has done a great job and we are grateful and honored to have had him with us as the head of the institution. Now he will take on a project of equal importance for us, the development of an economic research center in collaboration with the Gertulio Vargas Foundation. He will also be able to dedicate more time to his important work
in the private sector.”
Marco Herrera expressed surprise as well as honor and satisfaction for the job position he accepted. “It was unexpected but I feel honored to have been chosen for this position and will rise to the challenge to do the job. You can count on me and my time for whatever you need or want. Also, thank you very much
for the confidence you have placed in me,” he said in an emotional speech.
Enthusiastic applause and congratulations from the Foundation’s personnel marked the end of the modest event.
