Leonel Fernández Will Give a Keynote Speech at the Media and Information Literacy Forum in México

The former President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernández, travels on Tuesday, December 9 to México, where he will give a keynote speech at the Latin American and Caribbean Media and Information Literacy Forum on Wednesday, December 10.
The presentation of former Dominican president is scheduled for Wednesday, 10 at 10:40 a.m. (12:40 p.m. in DR).
Fernández, who is also president of Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo
(Funglode) will be presented by Dr. José Manuel Pérez Tornero, Professor of Journalism, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain.
Irina Bokova, Director-General of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and José Ramón Narro Robles, Vice-chancellor of the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM, by its Spanish acronym), will speak at the opening ceremony.
After the intervention of former Dominican president, a
first thematic block will be developed with the theme “Media and Information Literacy Facing Social Inequalities in Latin America and the Caribbean".
This block includes three working sessions, the first of which will discuss the role of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) in combating the educational gap and traditional illiteracy in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The second session will discuss the Development of
Digital Skills and Media and Information Literacy in Latin America and the Caribbean, while the third session will address the challenges against the conditions of inequality, intercultural dialogue and a culture of peace in today”s media ecosystem.
That same day, in the afternoon, there will be a fourth working session where he will address the challenges that México faces in media and information literacy, and there will be a first plenary about the challenges of the
global world.
The forum will continue on Thursday, 11 with a keynote speech by Dr. Pérez Tornero, which will be followed by a second thematic block that will addressed the concerning participation of various stakeholders in the public and media sphere through ICT and media literacy.
This thematic block includes three working sessions: the first will discuss intersections between the economic and the social. The other two sessions will discuss the use of
ICTs in the initiatives of civil society and the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) and the experiences of teaching – learning through this mechanism.
