The RD2044 project, an initiative of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), will be presented in New York on Tuesday, September 27, during a visit to the city by former Dominican Republic president and current Funglode
president Leonel Fernández.

The ceremony begins at 7pm at Symphony Space. All attendees must pre-register at www.rd2044eventbrite.com.

Project coordinator and director of Funglode’s Urbanism and Infrastructure Study Center, the engineer César Fernández, is managing the event alongside teams from Funglode and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development
(GFDD) in New York.

RD2044, a 30-year infrastructure development plan covering 32 Dominican provinces in celebration of the nation’s Bicentenary, was first announced in Santo Domingo in February of this year.

The former head of state will announce the main projects to be carried out in each of the interior provinces and municipalities and greater Santo Domingo with a media presentation – complete with 3D layouts – to recreate the
proposed spaces and infrastructure projects.

RD2044 offers a vision of the next 30 years that seeks the commitment and empowerment of the representatives of each of the communities.

Funglode began the study underpinning the project in 2008, and since then, alongside Yarima Sosa, a team of technicians, specialist engineers and architects, and legislators has traveled the country holding meetings in each province with the objective of identifying projects
that will transform communities.

RD2044 is based on the 2030 National Development Strategy Law.

RD2044 contains Fernandez’s short-, medium-, and long-term vision of how to turn the Dominican Republic into an equitable model of a nation, considered a first-world economy, through this exercise in planning.

RD2044 takes into account factors – such as area of residence, gender, and ethnicity – that impact opportunities to access
basic services, education, decent employment, and personal and community development, since infrastructure creates the physical conditions for this by fitting out spaces to make possible the economic, social, and cultural development that improves quality of life, social inclusion, and opportunities, while contributing to the rational and responsible use of natural, cultural, and historical resources.
The eight development strategies underpinning RD2044 are quality of basic
services such as drinking water, draining systems, and electricity; cultural and tourism diversification; productive consolidation through decent employment; training and knowledge development; community association; urban and institutional management; sustainable development; and provincial and regional interconnection.

This research work is available for consultation and interaction online at www.rd2044.org, where all citizens can empower themselves about the realities of their provinces.
