Leonel Fernández Arrives in Paris with a Packed Agenda as EU-LAC Foundation President

This Monday former Dominican president Dr. Leonel Fernández arrived in Paris, France, where an extensive work agenda awaits him as President of the European Union–Latin America and Caribbean (EU-LAC) Foundation.
During his weeklong stay in the French capital, the Dominican politician will meet with representatives of the French government, La Maison de l’Amerique Latine, UNESCO, the Institut des Amériques (IdA), the Ibero-American General
Secretariat (SEGIB), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the Inter-american Development Bank (IDB), among others.
As part of his institutional meetings, Fernández will speak at the International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean (LACFORUM) being held in Paris this week. During this event, organized by the OECD, IDB, and the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, the former Head of State will discuss the main trends in
global development.
Likewise, he is slated to appear during the opening ceremony of Latin America and Caribbean Week, where he will speak about the situation of the Latin American and Caribbean region as well as the Dominican Republic’s current presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and future prospects for this international body. This event will take place at the UNESCO headquarters.
The schedule of the
former president, who also heads the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), also includes his participation in a roundtable entitled “François Mitterrand and Latin America before 1981” and a colloquium on higher education alongside distinguished French intellectual Jean-Michel Blanquer, president of the IdA.
