InteRDom’s HOT Summer Seminars Begin

Doing Business is a multidisciplinary project of The World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, which began in 2003 as a means of analyzing and ranking global business reform. The project uses
10 indicators to measure the efficiency and ease of establishing and running a business in different countries throughout the world.

The first evening of the seminars began with some introductory words by Roby Senderowitsch, Resident Representative of The World Bank in the Dominican Republic,

of how the Dominican Republic measured up in each category in 2008. At the end of the first session, students were divided into working groups of 7 people. Working groups then took the stage on Wednesday, July 1 to present their suggestions for legislative reforms in order to improve the standing of the Dominican Republic in the global Doing Business rankings.

The seminars were attended by over 70 students of Dominican, Haitian and American backgrounds representing various local and international universities, businesses and nonprofit organizations.

professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their field of study, complemented by courses and seminars at local universities.

Since its establishment in 2005, InteRDom has had interns from more than 35 international universities. This summer’s interns represent the following universities: Fordham University, Harvard
University, George Washington University, Baylor University, Cornell University, SUNY University of Buffalo, Monterrey Institute of International Students and Harvard Kennedy School.
