InteRDom Summer Program 2015 Kicks Off in Santo Domingo
June 10, 2015The 2015 InteRDom Summer Program officially began on June 1st, 2015 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and welcomed a diverse group of students. Scholars in the program hail from the United States, Germany, and Italy, significantly expanding our reach of international students.
The students accepted into the program represent a wide variety of interest areas, and will experience an action-packed summer of internships, activities, and get-togethers.
Students will have to opportunity to go on tours in the Colonial Zone on Trikke scooters, and in Puerto Plata- a beautiful region in the northern part of the Dominican Republic. Puerto Plata will cover the “Merengue and Cacao Tour” and many other cultural activities, in order to provide a real Dominican culture experience.
Students hail from the following universities: Bucknell University, USA; University of Pennsylvania, USA; Saint Peter’s
University, USA; University of San Francisco, USA; University of Padua, Italy; IE Business School, Spain; Johns Hopkins University, USA; and Columbia University (SIPA), USA.
Each student spends their first week preparing for their internships, participating in an orientation week, and settling into their new environment while adjusting to Dominican culture. The InteRDom team carries out several workshops, meetings, and events during orientation week that are geared to
help students get the most out of their summer experience.
Among the organizations that will receive international interns through InteRDom this summer are: Central Bank of the Dominican Republic; TECHO foundation; Nido para Angeles foundation; Dominican Women in Development, Inc. (MUDE); the Scalabriniana Institute for Human Mobility (ASCALA); and The Dominican Institute for Integral Development, Inc. (IDDI).
The 2015 summer interns will also
have the opportunity to attend weekly events at Funglode, write journal entries about their experience, and participate in the InteRDom Blog and Correspondent Program throughout the duration of their program.
InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation
for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), is a premier internship, research, and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study, and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a
local university.
