InteRDom Announces 2009 Summer Seminars

*Seminar: Doing Business in Latin America
Guest Speaker: Jean Michel Lobet, World Bank Program, Doing Business Program
Date: June 30 and July 1, 2009
Time: 6 p.m. -8 p.m.
Location: Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) Headquarters, Santo Domingo.
This year, for the first time, the Dominican Republic forms part of a group of ten countries recognized for comprehensive commercial reforms and regulations. The country has made advancements in four of the areas examined in The World Bank Report Doing Business, including tax reforms. The results achieved by the Dominican Republic
reflect positive tendencies observed throughout the Caribbean.
This seminar will examine the keys behind economic development in the Dominican Republic and will provide participants with tools with which to analyze the social and political phenomenon that impact the lives of people in the Dominican Republic. Participants will be provided with materials that will allow them to assess the country’s advancements and devise proposals for further advancement in this
area.
About the speaker: Jean Michel Lobet joined the project Doing Business in October, 2006. Prior to working for The World Bank, he carried out work in the area of legal reform with various international organizations in Washington, DC.

The objective of this seminar is to examine in detail the matter of civil rights in the Dominican Republic. Discussion will be oriented around fundamental rights: what they consist of, and how to employ and interpret them. The seminar will also analyze how civil rights are perceived and incorporated in various
countries, in particular their importance within legal systems and national and international mechanisms of demand.
About the speaker: Henry Molina is the Director of Escuela Nacional de la Judicatura de la República Dominicana and Coordinator of the project E-justicia, an initiative of the Iberoamerican Judicial Summit (Cumbre Judicial Iberoamericana). He is also a Professor of Constitutional Law at Universidad Iberoamericana
(UNIBE).
