GMAI Organizes Screenwriting Workshop for Short Films

Thirteen students participated in the workshop, “Screenwriting for Short Films,” organized by The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), March 23-26, 2009, at FUNGLODE
headquarters.

The workshop, instructed by author and award winning screenwriter Mark Haskell Smith and author, screenwriter and Director of the MFA in Creative Writing and Writing for Performance at the University of California, Riverside, Tom Lutz, featured both theoretical and practical instruction on cinematographic screenwriting.
GMAI is dedicated to providing professionals in the
television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic. The Institute seeks to play a key role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization of the nation.
GMAI regularly offers introductory, intermediate and
advanced courses. It also organizes events that promote greater understanding of the media arts, such as conferences, screenings and interviews with filmmakers.
