February 23, 2014InteRDom is excited to announce the Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program’s participation in the 8th National Dominican Student Conference, to be hosted at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from March 28-30th, 2014. The theme of the conference is Diáspora de la Tambora: Celebrando Arte y Cultura, which translates to "Diaspora of the Drum: Celebrating Art and Culture" and will ask students the question, “How can the arts be used to mobilize our communities to address issues such as race, education, and identity?”
When: March 27-30, 2014
Where: Harvard University, Cambridge, MA
Application Deadline:
March 10, 2014
The Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program (GDAE) will join forces with the NDSC and Harvard University Dominican Student Association to bring 10 Dominican
students to the United States. GDAE is designed to promote economic development and entrepreneurship amongst Dominican young people by connecting them with their Dominican-American counterparts in intellectual environments. During the program, Dominican university students studying diverse topics will travel to Harvard University for 4 days, where they will participate in a professional student conference that unites hundreds of Dominican college students and dozens of inspirational
panelists to discuss issues that affect the Dominican community.
At the conference, participants will take part in educational workshops, listen to inspirational speakers, including keynote speaker Josefina Baez, attend art exhibitions, networking and social events – all of which provides a unique opportunity for professional and cultural exchange and growth between Dominican and Dominican-American participants of NDSC and Harvard University. Additionally, participants
will explore various aspects of the Dominican experience through expressive mediums such as painting, creative writing, and music. Participants can look forward to creating their own artwork, watching and participating in various performances, sharing their own experiences in a specially organized panel and interacting with talented artists in the Dominican community.
Participants will also be able to tour the famed Harvard University—as well as other campuses of universities in Boston—to learn more about higher education in the United States.
After the extremely successful launch of the GDAE program last November at Yale University, GDAE looks forward to growing the initiative for 2014 by offering the program multiple times in varying formats throughout the year at other higher learning institutions in the United
States.
The National Dominican Student Conference is an annual conference that strives to provide the highest quality in educational workshops, inspirational speakers, art exhibitions, networking events, and parties – all of which serve to educate, uplift, and unite the Dominican student community. In past years the conference has been hosted at Brown University, Yale University and Cornell University, among others.
