GFDD to Host Presentation of a Research Study on the Elimination of Violence against Women in the Dominican Republic at CSW 59

On March 18, 2015, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations and the Dominican Political Observatory (OPD) of Funglode, will host the presentation of a research study at the United Nations entitled The Elimination of Violence Against
Women.

The event, which is being organized in parallel to the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 59), will take place from 3PM to 4.15PM on Wednesday March 18, 2015 in Conference Room 11
in the General Assembly Building of the United Nations Headquarters.

About the 59th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women
The main focus of the session will be on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, including current challenges that affect its implementation and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The Commission will undertake a review of progress made in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 20 years after its adoption at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. The review (Beijing+20) will also include the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly, the first five-year assessment conducted after the adoption of the Platform for Action, which highlighted further actions and initiatives.

The session will also
address opportunities for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women in the post-2015 development agenda.

About this Event
The presentation will form part of the official launch of the GFDD publication Compilation of documents on Dominican Women: Femicide, Political Empowerment, Domestic Service, Maternal Mortality, Female Quotas and the Millennium Goals prepared by the Dominican Political Observatory (OPD) of
Funglode.
