GFDD to greet H. E. Eduardo Gálvez, Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of Chile to the UN, for a Global Roundtable meeting on the topic of Financing for Development

January 13, 2014

For the first edition in 2014 of GFDD’s online broadcast program “Global Roundtable,” we are honoured to welcome His Excellency Eduardo Gálvez, Ambassador, and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Chile to the United Nations on Friday January 17, 2014 for a focused discussion around the topic now most trending at the UN – Financing for Sustainable Development.

As a distinguished UN diplomat from Chile,
Mr. Gálvez has previously served as Ambassador and Director for Multilateral Affairs, and as Ambassador and Director for Planning in the Ministry of Foreign Relations of his country. He has also taken the functions of Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Chile to the US, Counsellor at the Directorate for Multilateral Economic Affairs, Counsellor at the Chilean Mission to the UN, and Head of the World Trade Organization Bureau at the
Directorate for Multilateral Economic Affairs. In addition, he was First Secretary at the Chilean Embassy to France, and Second Secretary at the Directorate for Multilateral Economic Affairs and at the Chilean Embassy to the United Kingdom. Holding a Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics and graduating from Political Science at the University of Chile and from the Foreign Service Program at the University of Oxford, His Excellency is very engaged on the topics of
Financing for Development and the post-2015 development agenda.

In light of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) target date of 2015 and the desire to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within a single set of international development goals starting in 2015, the theme of Financing for Development represents a top priority for all high-level international discussions. In light of this, the January Global Roundtable session will therefore be a
discussion between Ambassador Gálvez and GFDD Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic about the concept and importance of FfD and what strides are being made in this area. Ambassador Gálvez will, in particular, elaborate on the Financing for Development agenda, to discuss what it covers and how NGOs can best focus their efforts in order to best influence the creation of the post-2015 development agenda. Last but not least, His Excellency will also touch upon the topic of global economic
governance and renewed global partnerships as a starting point for the successful implementation of the Financing for Development agenda.
