GFDD Supports the Group of Dominican Professionals in Washington, D.C. (GDP-WASH)
August 13, 2014
On August 12, 2014, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) welcomed in its D.C. office a group of representatives of the Group of Dominican Professionals in Washington, D.C. (GDP-WASH). GFDD is supporting their efforts to become more active and promote a more dynamic Dominican diaspora in this city.
GDP-WASH is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 to bring together Dominican Professionals living in the Washington D.C. metropolitan
area, promoting activities related to the Dominican culture and facilitating networking among the Dominican diaspora. The group has been very active in the past contributing to the formulation of innovative proposals and accurate public policies related to the Latin American region. Nowadays, GDP-WASH aims to strengthen their organization with a new generation of leadership at its Executive Committee, and will be working to have a wider reach to Dominicans in this area.
GFDD is accompanying GDP-WASH as a complement to the institution’s mission to promote collaboration and exchange relevant to Dominican professionals, general audiences and institutions in the Dominican Republic and abroad, and to foster understanding and appreciation of the Dominican culture, values and heritage.
A strategic alliance between GFDD and GDP-WASH will generate interesting opportunities for academic and intellectual discussions of
contemporary issues relevant to the Dominican audience in Washington, D.C. and beyond. Also, GFDD and GDP-WASH will jointly coordinate social gatherings and professional networking events for the Dominican diaspora in this area, part of GFDD’s Dominican Get-Together and the Socioeconomic Development programs.
