GFDD Supports the Dominican Consulate in New York at the 2013 Meritorious Student Award Ceremony

June 13, 2013

As part of its mission to promote academic excellence within the Dominican community, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) offered their support to the Consulate of the Dominican Republic in New York headed by Cónsul General Félix Antonio Martínez at their event “The Meritorious Student Award” ceremony, which acknowledges outstanding student achievement.

The 2013 ceremony was held at the Sheppard Hall of City College (CCNY) on
Thursday, June 13th and was attended by hundreds of people, the majority of attendees being family and friends of the honored students. As a mark of their achievement, GFDD presented the 20 students being honored with a gift of their published book, “Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment, the first comprehensive guide on the environment done by the country.”

The initiative has been sponsored by the
Presidency of the Dominican Republic for the last 17 years to promote academic success among students of Dominican descent attending schools in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Recipients of the award must possess a grade point average between 95 and 100, and must participate in a variety of school related activities.

GFDD was pleased to be part of this outstanding initiative and looks forward to partnering with the Consulate of the Dominican Republic
in New York to realize other programs that encourage scholastic achievement among students of Dominican origin here in the United States.
