In Recognition and Tribute to Dominican Women, Katy Berndt, GFDD liaison, recognized Mrs. Magalis Troncoso’s hard work and community engagement, especially aimed to empowering Dominican women.

Upon receiving the award, Mrs. Troncoso expressed her gratitude for GFDD’s support and generosity. During the ceremony, Mrs. Troncoso received the book LO DOMINICANO – “All Things Dominican” – a compilation
of Dominican culture, written in English and in Spanish, as a gift. Ms. Troncoso has organized the “Dominican Women’s Day” for the past 12 years and is also in charge of the Dominican Center for Development and Women in Action.

Hundreds of people attended the event, including city officials, such as Ms. Ayanna Pressley, the Boston City Councilor At-Large, and Mr. Luis Matos, who is the festival’s director. Marizol Martinez, Angela Nuesi,
Laura Luna and Odelice Ramirez also received recognition awards. The ceremony took place in the “Julia Martin House” Center, located in Boston’s Jamaica Plain, one of Massachusetts neighborhoods with the highest concentration of Dominicans. Those in attendance also had the opportunity to participate in the conference “The History of Dominican Women,” by Massiel Torres, a young Dominican woman whose academic achievements make us
proud.
