April 15, 2013

GFDD and FUNGLODE have been accredited to attend the 2013 Spring Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group that will be held in Washington DC on April 19 – 21, 2013.

GFDD will be also in attendance of other high level events during the 2013 Spring Meetings, such as Civil Society Policy Dialogues scheduled for April 17 – 20 and the Civil Society Policy Forum.
The Forum will bring together IMF and WBG staff, Civil Society Organizations (CSO) representatives, government officials, academics, and others to exchange views and dialogue on a wide range of topics. In addition, GFDD is invited for a CSO Reception and an expected 55 policy dialogue sessions on such issues as global economic recovery, climate change, consultation guidelines, post-MDGs agenda, and safeguards. These sessions will be organized by the World Bank, Fund, and
CSOs individually or jointly.

At the heart of the gathering are meetings of the IMF’s International Monetary and Financial Committee and the joint World Bank-IMF Development Committee, which discuss progress on the work of the IMF and World Bank. Also featured are Civil Society Policy Dialogues and the Civil Society Forum, as testify the World Bank’s engagement with civil society. In the early 1980s, leading international NGOs and the World Bank established the
NGO-World Bank Committee which held regular meetings to discuss Bank policies, programs, and projects.  Since then the World Bank has undertaken numerous studies, promoted joint World Bank–civil society policy consultations, adopted policies geared to promoting greater participation, hired civil society specialists, and sponsored numerous CSO outreach programs.

The Civil Society Forum held within the framework of the Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank
aiming to bring together IMF and WBG staff, CSO representatives, government officials, academics, and others to discuss global economy, international development, and the world’s financial markets.
