GFDD/Funglode Announces 2016 Awards Winners

The announcement of the winners was made by Marco Herrera, Executive Director of Funglode and Catherine Florentino, Director of GFDD/Funglode Award.

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development Global (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), announced, Tuesday, February 7, the results of the tenth edition of its Annual Awards for Photography, Novel, Essay, Poetry and Journalism.

The event was held at the Art
Gallery in Funglode. The envelopes with the verdicts were opened in the presence of the lawyer and notary public Cecilia García.

The organizers reported that a total of 104 works was received: 14 in poetry; 7 essays; 67 photographic sets; 5 novels and 11 journalistic reports. Winners will receive cash prizes ranging from the RD$ 30,000.00 to RD$ 150, 000.00. The awards ceremony will take place in March, date to be announced soon.

Journalism:
Rafael Herrera Prize

First Place: The series “Paseo cultural”, by Mayra Pérez Castillo, from Listín Diario. Will receive a statuette; RD$100,000 and it will be published in a book collecting the winners of the category.

Second Place: The series “Era de Trujillo a 55 años”, by Héctor Francisco Minaya Rosario, from the newspaper El Nacional. Will receive a recognition; RD$75,000 and the publication of the
articles.

Third Place: Report series “Las Emergencias en emergencia”, byDoris Pantaleón, from Listín

Diario. Will receive a recognition; RD$75,000 and the work will be published.

Coverage on hospitals in the South of the country, by Ana Batista Mateo, from Diario Libre.

“Aislados para salvarse”, by Adriana Peguero, from Listín Diario.
