GFDD Celebrates Dominican Women Writers

The foundation participated at the XII International Book Fair of Dominican Women Writers in New York City with the presentation of Dr. Martha Beato´s Lecture on the Topic "The 7 Internal Forces as a Way to Empower Women"

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) participated at the XIII International Book Fair of Dominican Women Writer, where several authors were honored for their
contribution to Dominican literature. The inauguration took place at the Auditorium of Isabella Home Center in New York on March, where the opening remarks were made by Rosita Romero, founder and Executive Director of the Dominican Women’s Development Center (DWDC), who thanked everyone "for their support to the book fair, where the Dominican diaspora talent, represented by workers and talented women, is recognized.“

Sarah Aponte, Director of
the Dominican Studies Institute Library of CUNY, gave special recognition to the Dominican writer Elizabeth Balaguer, for her contribution to children’s literature.

On the other hand, the Medal of Cultural Merit in New York, granted to Ricardo Ureña, was presented by Jacqueline Guilamo.

The presentation of the honored writer, Rhina
Espaillat, was in charge of Dr. Franklin Gutierrez and Karina Rieke, General Director of the Fair, followed by the ribbon cutting and presentation of the awards and gifts from the council woman Ydanis Rodriguez and Eduardo Selman, Dominican General Consul. GFDD gave the book New Perspectives: Dominican Republic to the honorees.

The inauguration ceremony included the presentation of Dominican artist Lisbelkis Santana, who performed the song
“Por amor” by Rafael Solano. Reading poems of the honored writer, Rhina Espaillat, was in charge of poets Osiris Mosquea, Yrene Santos and Yvelisse Fanith.

During the presentation of the awards Yamile Eusebio, Director of GFDD office in New York, thanked the organizing committee of the fair "for allowing the Dominican community based in New York enjoy the talent of Dominican women through this event, coinciding with the celebration of
International women’s Day ".

On March and 7th and 8th, GFDD presented Dr. Martha Beato´s Lecture on the Topic "The 7 Internal Forces as a Way to Empower Women".

GFDD’s special guest
The fair activities continued throughout the weekend, culminating on March 8th with the presentation of GFDD’s special guest, Dr. Martha Beato, who lectured on the topic “The 7
Internal Forces as a Way to Empower Women".

Before a packed auditorium, Dr. Beato highlighted the 7 forces behind women, according to her, its risks, challenges and characteristics. She invited each woman to evaluate and define which of them dominates, and find the right balance in order to have a successful life. The 7 forces to her are: independent, leader, self-righteous, mother, humble, strategist and lover.

Specialist in human development
and transactional analysis, Marta Beato has over 30 years of experience working in business organizations, educational institutions and in the private practice. Based in the Dominican Republic, she began as a professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, and was Deputy Director of the Escuela Radiofónica de Educación para la Vida Familiar at PROFAMILIA. She worked at the Ministry of Agriculture, where she was a
founder, Director and later adviser to the department of human resources. In the past 30 years she has directed the Center for Productivity and Welfare.

She was a columnist for several years of the newspaper Listín Diario in the Dominican Republic and the Diario Universo in Ecuador, writing on topics of psychosocial counseling. Since 1990 she is a consultant, motivational speaker and international facilitator.
