May 21, 2013
By popular demand, the next Dominican Get-Together in the Big Apple on June 6, 2013, in close collaboration with the Association of Veganos, in upper Manhattan, will celebrate the rich and vibrant cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic with an encore screening of the highly acclaimed documentary "Discover La Vega: Pride of my Land".
Audiences can’t seem to get enough of this
fascinating documentary journey into the religious customs, folkloric traditions, natural diversity, history and cuisine of La Vega and its many municipalities including La Vega, Jarabacoa, Constanza and Jima Abajo.
Following the screening, audiences will have the rare opportunity to get a personal glimpse into the making of this incredible film when the filmmakers and representatives of the documentary will discuss all that went into making it one of the most
illuminating documentaries on the rich and vibrant culture of this little known corner of the DR. A special presentation on the sights and sounds of an authentic La Vega Carnival will close out the evening with the participation of special guest & prominent historian Cesar Arturo Abreu Fernandez, author of “Interrogantes del Carnaval Vegano – Tres Versiones” – a book dedicated to discovering the secrets and unique heritage of the La Vega Carnival.
