GFDD and FUNGLODE Will Present Panel Discussion: The Obama Administration’s Agenda for Latin America
March 11, 2009
On Monday, March 16, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) will present the panel discussion “The Obama Administration’s Agenda for Latin America.” The event will take place at 7:00 pm at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo.
Despite domestic challenges, the United States continues to remain a superpower. Challenges of all sorts, not only
economic, confront the young administration of President Obama. These challenges include issues related to commerce, migration and security in Latin America and the Caribbean — issues that are particularly relevant due to the region’s geographic proximity to the United States. Latin America and the Caribbean are anxious to learn about the administration’s positions on these matters.
The panel will feature prominent international political experts
Michael Shifter, Vice President of Policy at Inter-American Dialogue and Professor of Latin American Studies and Director of the Andes Program at Georgetown University; and Erika Ruíz Sandoval, Director of Foreign Affairs Latinoamérica, Professor of International Affairs at Instituto Techológico Autónomo de México and member of Institut Universitari d’Estudis Europeus’ European Foreign Policy Observatory. Discussion
will be moderated by former Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the White House, Flavio Darío Espinal.
GFDD and FUNGLODE regularly organize conferences and seminars featuring presentations by renowned international and national experts as part of their mission to bring world-class programs concerning social and economic development and democratization to the Dominican Republic.
