GFDD and FUNGLODE Showcase Diaspora Book at ASWAD Conference in Santo Domingo
October 24, 2013
GFDD and FUNGLODE will be contributing its esteemed publication “The Presence of African in the Caribbean” to the Association for the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora (ASWAD’s) 7th Biennial Conference, which is scheduled to take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from October 30- November 2, 2013.
ASWAD is a not-for-profit organization of international scholars whose mission is to further an understanding of the
African Diaspora, primarily by way of conferences and symposia held periodically, and also through academic publications. The main objective of the conference is to provide a forum for the academic exchange of ideas related to African identity, race, feminist issues, and historical migration, all viewed through the lens of the African Diaspora. The topic is particularly pertinent given the current diplomatic circumstances surrounding Dominican-Haitian relations.
More than
85 scholars from universities all over the world will be presenting papers and moderating panels on a wide range of topics during this conference, which is a joint collaboration between Rutgers University and New York University, and will take place in the facilities of the Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD).
The Foundations will be represented at the event by FUNGLODE’s Formative Activities
Director, Yamile Eusebio, who is also Director of GFDD’s New York Office. Donations of a number of publications will be made to the conference, courtesy of Editorial FUNGLODE. Additionally, books will be made available at a special price to conference participants.
