On Monday, June 8, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), in collaboration with Mauricio Baéz organized a musical performance by the Cuban group Ars Longa at
Mauricio Baéz in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Created by Teresa Paz and Aland López in 1994, since 1995, the group has been affiliated with the Office of the Historian of the city of La Habana. Comprised of students and graduates of the music conservatories of La Habana and the Instituto Superior de Arte, the group has dedicated itself to
the interpretation, study and investigation of different periods and styles of music, from the Middle Ages to Baroque. Ars Longa occupies an important space within its repertoire – music from the vice-regal period in the Americas and colonial music from Cuba. In addition to the study and interpretation of Cuban music of cultural and historical importance, Ars Longa along with musicologist Miriam Escudero has taken on the task of recording historical versions of the work of Esteban
Salas (Cuba, 1725-1803).
