GFDD and FUNGLODE Collaborate on Third Annual Dominican Film Festival in NY

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will appear as a partner and supporter for the ever-popular Dominican Film Festival in New York (DFFNY) that will be held from June 18-22, 2014 at the Alumni Auditorium, Columbia University Medical Center, New York City.

Launched in 2011 by Cine Art Entertainment Productions, the Dominican Film Festival aims to keep New York City film lovers in the know about Dominican Cinema and its relation to the
history, politics and social life of Dominican culture.

Now on its third edition, the annual Dominican Film Festival’s mission is to promote the best in the emerging generation of Dominican filmmakers as well as more established ones, its film industry,  and help to strengthen the vital and expanding
economic and cultural relationship between the Dominican Republic and the United States.

For 2014, the Dominican Film Festival in New York, under the leadership of Armando Guareño, will bring together emerging talent and industry professionals for a 4-day celebration of Dominican cinema, with the goal to enrich the artistic experience of New York’s diverse cultural population.

As a partner of DFFNY, GFDD will come out with quality
Dominican-focused films in efforts to present the Dominican Republic in a constructive and engaging light while at the same time introducing the work of young Dominican filmmakers to a new audience.

Save the dates, and watch this space for a list of the GFDD supported films! For a sneak preview of some of the films you can watch at the DFFNY, sign up for the Dominican Film Showcase Program in New York, May 21-23, 201, which will present a series of captivating film
screenings, including the musical documentary "Sol Caribe", which is based on an unprecedented series of concert tours made by pioneers of Dominican music, such as Milly Quezada, Wilfrido Vargas, Joseíto Mateo, Fefita La Grande  and Johnny Ventura, among others.

Also presented will be action and drama documentaries, "The Mountain"and "Biodegradable".
