May 10, 2014
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development President Leonel Fernández, who is also former President of the DR, has negotiated an inter-agency agreement for the Caribbean nation to be granted access to US-based educational programs. The proposal was received from Alberto Carvalho, Superintendent of Education of Miami-Dade County,in the framework of the eMerge Americas event, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, in which Fernández participated as a
panelist.
Senior education official Carvalho, thanked Dr. Fernandez for his excellent contribution in the field of education and stressed that the Miami Dade County Public Schools has already signed memoranda of understanding with several European countries, such as Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and Germany. This has allowed students to earn diplomas that are recognized both in their home country and in the United States.
Dr. Fernández said that the
notion that the curriculum content of the educational system of the Miami-Dade County Schools is accessible to the Dominican Republic is an advantage, because it is one of the highest quality programs currently available in the United States. He went on to say that the agreement, which would be implemented through his organization FUNGLODE, benefits students in many ways, one being the wide and varied curriculum.
The Miami-Dade County Public Schools is the fourth largest
school system in the Americas, with an enrollment of over 340,000 students from over 100 countries, which provides innovative educational programs at the various school levels.
