First Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility in the Dominican Republic
May 24, 2005This conference took place in FUNGLODE’s headquarters and it was coordinated by FUNGLODE, its sister institution in the US Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), CEMEX Foundation, Alianza ONG, National Council for the Private Enterprise, the Inter American Development Bank (IADB) and the UN Development Program (UNDP).
This First Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility: Sustainable Development and Competitivity Strategy gathered representatives from various international institutions, the private and public sector as well as other NGOs working and interested in the topic. The opening ceremony counted with the presence of President Leonel Fernandez.
The one day conference included
sessions delivered and moderated by various experts and panelists, including Mr. Antonio Vives, IADB expert on the field as well as other representatives reporting on the national and international CSR experiences. These experiences included the work accomplished by the Brazilian construction company, Odebrech, Verizon, Cemex Dominicana and the Hotel Association of Restaurants and Hotels in La Romana-Bayahibe.
The event concluded with a series of remarks and next
steps to be accomplished in the future. FUNGLODE/GFDD aim at incorporating this topic in their working agenda and collaborate with other national and international institutions in advancing CSR initiatives in the Dominican Republic.
