Golf Tournaments Bring Together Sponsors, Friends
The 6th and 7th GFDD Golf Tournaments took place on September 21 and October 23, in New York and Miami respectively. The tournaments, which are already a GFDD tradition, were attended by leading figures from the philanthropic field, prominent sports figures, and other friends who through the years have supported GFDD’s programs.

Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience in India and San Francisco
Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience was nominated and screened at the 8th Competitive CMS Vatavaran Environment & Wildlife Film Festival and Forum 2015 in India and the 18th United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF) in Palo Alto. As part of its recognition at CMS, GFDD’s short film will be broadcasted on select television channels in India for the next two years.

Research and Ideas: Fellows Present Findings in Publication Launches
GFDD Fellows Program scholars recently presented their research publications at launches and other events across the east coast. Hilary Lohmann, Mat Rosa, and Yuan Li discussed topics such as climate change, Dominican-Chinese relations, and the vulnerabilities of Small Island Developing States. Lohmann and Rosa co-authored the publication Climate Change in the Dominican Republic: Impact on Coastal Resources and Communities, which they presented at the URI on October 29th. Lohmann also had the opportunity to present at the UN Church Center in New York and in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic earlier in October. Li authored Dominican Republic and P.R. China: Exchange, Trade, and Investment and presented at the GFDD headquarters in D.C.

The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and the Alliance Française in Santo Domingo will be screening two environmental films to promote sustainable development and environmental awareness for the community of students, professors, and friends of the French educational organization, as well as the general public. Both selected films—The Light Bulb Conspiracy and The E-Waste Tragedy—are French coproductions directed by European filmmaker Cosima Dannoritzer.
The screenings will be part of the programming of the Festival Internacional Cervantino to be held November 5–8, 2015, at the Cinemateca Dominicana.

The last day to hand in work for the contest will be Friday, November 6th before 4:00 p.m. Submissions must be handed in at the Funglode offices in Santo Domingo or in the GFDD office in New York.

The ReCrearte Program will offer a hands-on workshop on November 13, 2015 to students of Escuela de Las Galeras, Samaná, Dominican Republic. The workshop will take place at the Villa Serena Hotel in Las Galeras. The ReCrearte Program aims to raise awareness of the 3Rs of solid waste management: reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Personalities from the world of academia, medicine, communication, entertainment, sports, and design, among other sectors, are now part of the new Advisory Committee of the GFDD, which took shape at a meeting in New York last September that was presided over by GFDD President, Dr. Leonel Fernández and Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic.

Dominican Evening at CinemAmbiente in Turin
Three Dominican-made films were screened at the CinemAmbiente film festival in Turin, Italy this October. The GFDD productions Value of Life and Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience, both directed by Natasha Despotovic, and 7 Gramos, directed by Jonatán Vila Gómez, were shown at the festival on October 8th. Despotovic, executive director of GFDD and DREFF, was present at the festival to present the films and serve as a juror within the festival.
