The June GFDD Global Roundtables hosted Dr. Gustavo Fonseca, Director of Programs at the Global Environment Facility (GEF), for a session looking at the importance of public sector climate finance and the role of civil society in reducing emissions and helping communities to adapt.

Two Memorable Dominican Get Togethers with Fernando Villalona and Pavel Nuñez

Musicians Fernando Villalona and Pavel Nuñez were the stars of two Dominican Get Togethers (DGT) held in May in New York. At their respective events, the artists spoke onstage with GFDD about their lives, music, and how their careers have affected them. Question and answer sessions, discussions, and live performances from the musicians made both of the DGT events memorable for their audiences.

Calling all EDUCATION students! Apply for a special academic year-long internship at a prestigious and innovative school in San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic. The school is seeking interns to serve as elementary teaching assistants for the 2015-16 academic year.

ReCrearte Continues Traveling the Country to Teach the Art of Recycling

Over the last 2 months, ReCrearte has been raising awareness and teaching the art of recycling to dozens of people around the country. Participants, including teens, housewives, teachers, and senior citizens, learned many techniques including how to turn t-shirts, plastic bags, and bottles into useful and decorative utensils. Suzan Beraza and David Byars Shared Their Secrets with us in Santo Domingo for Creating Impact Documentaries

Filmmakers Susan Beraza and David Byars chatted and shared their secrets with over 60 participants at a short film documentary workshop in May. Topics of discussion included finding ideas, interview techniques, and dealing with characters. Participants were encouraged to get out and put the tips they had learned to good use by developing their own documentaries. Some of the attendees were also given the opportunity to receive one-on-one guidance from Beraza and Byars for their projects.

Join GFDD and UNIBE for a screening of La Montaña

GFDD and the Departamento de Asuntos Estudiantiles de la Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) will present a screening of La Montaña for its students. Every semester, UNIBE hosts talks and programs on relevant themes for the overall development of its students. With the assistance of GFDD-Funglode, this film forum will address many themes including personal advancement, motivation, and teamwork.

Globo Verde Dominicano Award 2015 Registration Open until July 24th!

Registrations for the fourth edition of the Globo Verde Dominicano Award, the first audiovisual competition in the area of environment and sustainable development in the Dominican Republic, is open until July 24, 2015. This year's contest includes a special category for high school students: the Globo Verde Junior, which will join the Public Service Announcement, Short Film, and Photography categories.

On the occasion of the 21st Conference on Climate Change organized by the United Nations, this year's theme is "Impact of Global Warming and Climate Change." The Globo Verde Dominicano Award is part of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD).

Over 6,500 Visitors Stop by GFDD/Funglode Tent at Passport D.C.

Over 6,500 Visitors Stop by GFDD/Funglode Tent at Passport D.C.A GFDD/Funglode tent provided a little something extra at the Dominican Republic Embassy during Passport D.C. in May. Visitors not only enjoyed traditional music, dances, and foods, but also learned about GFDD/Funglode’s projects and programs, and how they impact both the DR and other countries. We also had the privilege of interviewing the new Dominican Ambassador in the United States, José Tomás Pérez at the event, who highlighted the work alliance between the Dominican Embassy and GFDD/Funglode as a “very positive relationship wherein both organizations have benefitted.”
