St. Francis College President and Representatives Visit Santo Domingo Schools Alongside GFDD/Funglode

GFDD/Funglode facilitated a visit to Santo Domingo by several leaders and the president of St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York. During a five-day trip the representatives met with students and teachers from three schools in Santo Domingo as well as vice ministers of higher education in the Dominican Republic.

Former President of the Dominican Republic and President of GFDD/Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández presented 32 books on the RD 2044 project, an initiative of Funglode that intends to transform the country by its bicentennial. The books come after 10 years of research and present a clear vision of infrastructure projects for the Dominican Republic.

Fellow Showcases Research During UN World Interfaith Harmony Week

Within the framework of the UN World Interfaith Harmony Week, GFDD/Funglode Fellow Dr. Christina Davidson formally presented her publication “Analysis of Evangelical Christianity in the Dominican Republic.” The event was facilitated by GFDD’s New York office director, Yamile Eusebio, and featured remarks from an expert and scholar on Afro-Peruvian civil society, Dr. John Thomas III.

GFDD/Funglode Hosts the Dominican Institute of Environmental Rights for International Environmental Awards Ceremony

The Dominican Institute of Environmental Rights (IDARD) held a special ceremony to distribute international environmental awards to local organization in the Dominican Republic. Eco Escuela, LLave Verde and Bandera Azul presented awards to 76 local institutions for their efforts to support the environment and sustainability.

Winners of the 2018 Funglode/GFDD Awards Announced

During a celebration in the Funglode Cultural Studies Center in Santo Domingo, GFDD/Funglode announced the results of the 12th annual Funglode/GFDD awards for literature and the arts. Medals and cash prizes were awarded for the categories of Journalism, Photography, Story, Essay, Novel and Poetry.

The Funglode Auditorium in Santo Domingo was the site of several events for the 26th Edition of Geography Week 2019 during the month of January. In five separate workshops teachers learned and exchanged experiences about how to raise awareness of and confront environmental issues impacting their communities.

The 66th Session of the Harvard Model United Nations in Boston, MAThe United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR) as well as GFDD/Funglode were present at the 66th session of the Harvard Model United Nations summit in Boston, Massachusetts. GFDD networked and exchanged ideas with faculty advisors from around the world about how to support one another and young students interested in debate and international affairs.

13th Annual Golf Tournament in Florida

The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, la Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), will host the 13th Annual Golf Tournament at Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne in Key Biscayne, Florida.

The event will raise funds to ensure the ongoing implementation of GFDD’s projects and activities promoting social, economic and democratic development in the Dominican Republic.
