 As part of its efforts to promote Dominican culture and arts, GFDD in New York supported the presentation of the award-winning Miriam Miente (Miriam Lies) directed by Natalia Cabral and Oriol Estrada at the Havana Film Festival New York (HFFNY), the biggest festival for Latin American film in New York City.

Experts Highlight Threats and Challenges to the Political Future of Latin America and the Caribbean
 GFDD hosted a panel discussion on the political and electoral panorama of the Latin American and Caribbean region with Gerardo De Icaza, Director of the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO) at the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy of the Organization of American States (OAS), and Geovanny Vicente Romero, political analyst, international consultant and speaker, and founder of the Centro de Políticas Públicas, Desarrollo y Liderazgo RD (CPDL-RD).

 During a special visit to Funglode headquarters in Santo Domingo, the president of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and President of GFDD/Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández announced plans to co-host the training of teacher trainers for the effective integration of technology in learning in the Dominican Republic.

 In the context of collaboration with the Environmental Film Festival at the Nation’s Capital (DCEFF), a DC-based annual environmental film festival, GFDD, together with its Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) hosted a panel discussion entitled “Sargassum: An Environmental Threat?” at its Washington, DC offices to raise awareness about the benefits and concerns associated with this particular type of seaweed.

GFDD Continues Role as Institutional Secretary at CoNGO Board Meeting in Vienna, Austria
 The Confederation of NGOs (CoNGO), an organization in consultative relationship with the United Nations, held its annual Board Members Meeting at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) and the Palffy Palace in Vienna, Austria. GFDD was an active participant in the discussions, following a partnership between CoNGO and that organization established in 2015.

GFDD will participate at the 2019 International Book Fair of Santo Domingo with a series of events and activities for all, including publication launches, screenings of short films, talks with authors, recycling workshops, photo exhibits and a live presentation of the DominicanaOnline.org Portal. The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), a GFDD initiative, will celebrate the World Environment Day with a special screening of the film "Revolution", directed by Rob Stewart. The World Environment Day (June 5th, annually) is an environmental awareness day, run by the United Nations. DREFF/GFDD and UNIBE will take this opportunity to raise awareness of the environment and specific environmental issues. The film not only does sheds light on crucial environmental topics and how we can save the planet, but also shows how past world events have taught us what we need to do to save the future.
