Want to see how waste can be converted into art and objects for daily use? VisitExpo ReCrearte at Funglode´s headquarter in Santo Domingo, a showcase that displays recycling projects and art works created by students from numerous schools throughout the Dominican Republic. Expo ReCrearte, an event held in celebration of International Recycling Day on May 17, is organized by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) ReCrearte program, and done in collaboration with the ECOESCUELA project of the Dominican Republic Institute for Environmental Law (IDARD, for its acronym in Spanish).

Dr. Leonel Fernández Launch Book Collection in New York and Florida

President of GFDD/Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández, held book launches in New York and Florida for his new publication, a compilation of political speeches delivered during his three presidential terms, on Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29, respectively.  “Democracy, Modernity and Progress: Speeches by President Leonel Fernández,” is the title of the collection of four volumes published by Editorial Funglode and that includes inaugural speeches, as well as interventions in international forums.

DREFF and DCEFF’s Dominican Night Celebrate Once Again Environment and Promote Its Sustainable Use

As part of the DC Environmental Film Festival (DCEFF), the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) held its annual Dominican Night, a showcase of documentaries produced on the island by Dominican filmmakers, on March 23 at the E Street Cinema in the nation’s capital. Dozens of moviegoers, filmmakers and special guests came out to watch highly-anticipated screenings of the short film Ciclos, winner of the 2016 Globo Verde Dominicano Award, by Hansel Ureña Espósito; Death by a Thousand Cuts, directed by Juan Mejia and Jake Kheel; and Site of Sites, by Natalia Cabral and Oriol Estrada. GFDD also hosted a networking breakfast for Green Film Network (GFN) members, filmmakers and friends at the GFDD office in Washington, D.C, during the DCEFF.

Talking about the Dominican Republic Film Law

GFDD, in partnership with the Dominican Republic’s Commissioner of Culture in New York and as part of its Dominican Film Showcase program, hosted an interactive presentation by Yvette Marichal, General Director of the General Directorate of Film of the Dominican Republic, titled “A Review of Film Law in the Dominican Republic: Six Years of Constant Growth.” The event took place in front of a packed auditorium at the offices of the Commissioner of Dominican Culture in Washington Heights in New York City.

You could be the next winner of the Globo Verde Dominicano Award!The Globo Verde Dominicano Award competition can take you around the world if your short film becomes a winner! Hansel Ureña, winner of the 2016 award in the Short Film Category with Ciclos, was with us in the United States, where he presented his film in the framework of the DC Environmental Film Festival, one of the most important competitions in the world. Additionally, Hansel won a certificate for $2000 worth of technical equipment.

Celebrating Earth Day in the National Botanical Garden with More than 200 High School StudentsIn celebration of Earth Day, more than 200 students from schools in Santo Domingo participated in the screenings of the documentaries “10 Billion, What''s on Your Plate,” by Director Valentin Thurn, and “The True Cost,” by Andrew Morgan. The film screenings, carried out in the National Botanical Gardens, were part of the Year Round Environmental Film Screenings Program of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF).

Visit Dominican Republic Without Leaving Washington, DC!

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) is partnering one more time with the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in the United States to present the very best of the Dominican Republic during the 2017 Around the World Embassy Tour, a signature annual event in Washington, DC part of the Passport DC initiative. The Embassy of the Dominican Republic will open its doors Saturday May 6 from 10am to 4pm to thousands of visitors and residents for this event, and GFDD will support this event by presenting to the audience its publications "All Things Dominican | Lo Dominicano" and "Dominican Republic: New Perspectives", as well as sharing beautiful photographies from the Caribbean country.

Save the Date for the 2017 Dominican Week in the United States!

This year Dominican Week (SEMDOMUSA) will be held May 8-12, 2017! GFDD has supported throughout the years this annual initiative of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR), where a delegation of Dominican business representatives visit the United States and participate in several initiatives to enhance commercial relationships between the two countries. Specific events to be co-hosted will be announced soon!

GFDD/Funglode and Panamericana Films Invite You to the Premier of Luis, a Film by Archie Lopez

The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and Panamericana Films invite all to the premier of Luis, a film by director Archie Lopez. In Luis, starring Alfonso Rodríguez, Colonel Rosario is an exemplary-heroic policeman. His son, Luis commits a violation of the law, and both are prey of the condradictions.

This screening, happening at the Walter Reade Theater, is part of the GFDD Dominican Film Showcase program.
