DREFF’s Year-Round Screening Program Showcased at Third Annual Geography Fair
April 15, 2014As part of GFDD’s Year-Round Environmental Film Screenings program, the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) will join forces with Listin Diario’s Plan Lea in celebrating the Third Annual Geography Fair, to be held from April 23-24 in Santo Domingo. The Fair, which will take place at Sambil Mall, entitled “We are all explorers,” will provide opportunities for students, teachers and the general public to participate in
screenings, seminars, and workshops. All activities, including DREFF’s Year-Round Screening Program, are aimed at raising awareness on the interconnectedness of geographic areas while promoting their exploration and conservation.
DREFF is organizing four screenings of 3 environment-based films; 1) The Mountain; 2) Planet Ocean; and 3) GFDD-produced short film entitled Educational Expedition to Pico Duarte;
La Montaña (The Mountain)
Docu-drama, directed by Tabaré Blanchard, the film depicts an extraordinary and inspirational story of human determination and achievement. In May 2011, a
Caribbean expedition managed to make history by hoisting the Dominican flag at the summit of the world’s highest mountain: Mount Everest. The impressive feat inspired three young boys, sons of fishermen from the small southern Dominican town of Nizao, to set out to conquer the highest peak of the island and the Caribbean Antilles: Pico Duarte. This is the story that unites the story of the Mountaineers with that of the young boys, who learn the importance of personal
strength, teamwork, comradeship and discipline, in overcoming obstacles and achieving present and future goals.
