Dr. Leonel Fernández will be Recognized as “Statesman of the Year” by the Canadian Council of the Americas

The Former President of the Dominican Republic and President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) will be recognized by the Canadian Council of the Americas (CCA) with the Statesman of the Year Award, for his leadership during his presidency.

The distinguished Canadian association will award Dr. Fernández with the distinction during its Annual Gala, to take place September 20 in
Toronto, Canada, acknowledging the former Head of State””s role as a mediator among Latin American countries in conflict, as well as a prominent figure in strengthening democracy throughout the region.

The CCA praises Dr. Fernández for his leadership in the area of foreign policy, which has afforded the Dominican Republic a relevant role in the international arena.

CCA is Canada’s premier forum for discussion of the political and economic issues in
the hemisphere that are critical to Canada, and particularly Canadian trade and investment. The entity has been a leader in Canada in the creation of programs and the promotion of dialogue related to economic and political tendencies throughout the Western Hemisphere.

While in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Leonel Fernández will also have meetings with important corporate and academic figures, among them, Michael Lee-Chin, President of the National Commercial Bank (NCB).
