Dr. Leonel Fernández Urges Latin America to Lean More Toward the World of Technology
August 6, 2015
Dr. Fernández made these comments during a dinner at the Hispanic IT Executive Council Leadership Summit, a meeting he is attending along with other Latin American leaders.
Dr. Leonel Fernández, President of GFDD/Funglode, said Latin America needs to move closer to the world of technology in order to generate added value through knowledge and human resources, and not necessarily those based on products that are cyclical.
Dr. Fernández, former President of the Dominican Republic, made these comments during a dinner at the Hispanic IT Executive Council (HITEC) Leadership Summit that began last Thursday in New York City.
In his speech, Dr. Fernández referred to a report done by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC in Spanish), which projects a mere 1% economic growth
in Latin America for the coming years, mainly due to the slowing down of China’s economy.
Dr. Fernández said the solution to this problematic situation could be an exchange of technology and knowledge among the Latino population in the United States, where, he noted, there is a second and third generation of executives and technical experts who could bring their knowledge to Latin America through exchange programs.
At the event, Dr. Fernández
met with a group of Dominicans, members of the Leadership Council of HITEC, who expressed their interest in contributing to the development of a high-tech industry in the Dominican Republic.
