Dr. Leonel Fernández Begins Duties as Chief of Electoral Observation Mission of the OAS in Bolivia

The president of GFDD/Funglode and Chief of the Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American State (OAS) for Bolivia, Dr. Leonel Fernández, began the initial observation duties on Wednesday for the Constitutional Referendum which will be held February 21 in Bolivia.

As part of his agenda, Dr. Fernández had a meeting with Bolivian President Evo Morales and members of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Bolivia. The former president of the Dominican Republic also met with members of political organizations that support the different options represented in the planned referendum. The observation mission under his
supervision is composed of experts and international observers to be deployed in the nine departments in which the Bolivian State is structured.

Under the guidelines of Fernández, a group of specialists will carry out a substantive analysis of the process in terms of electoral organization, political analysis, media information, and equity in the mechanisms of direct democracy.
