Dominican Schools Prepare for “Semana de la Geografía”

January 11, 2016

A workshop will be hosted on January 19th 2016, at the GFDD/Funglode headquarters, as part of a series of activities preceding the “Semana de la Geografía” (Geography Week), where directors of both public and private educational institutions, natural and social sciences professors, and technicians from the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic will receive both technical and academic training. The workshop aims at empowering, motivating, and
providing the participants with the necessary tools to better convey to students the content of the information discussed.

GFDD/Funglode, among other organizations, is collaborating with Listín Diario in the development and realization of the project “Semana de la Geografía” (Geography Week), which will take place from March 14 to March 18 with the topic Let’s Explore! The Power of Geography in the Island. This year’s objective is
to develop the ability of mapping the island’s biodiversity and to learn the use of maps and technologies as providers of geographical information in the context of environmental sciences.

“Semana de la Geografía” is an annual educational project envisaged by Listín Diario, through its educational program Plan Lea, with the objective of raising awareness on the use and conservation of natural resources and on the importance of geography for
the social, cultural, and economic development of the country. Since 1993, students, families, and members of the Dominican community have celebrated the “Semana de la Geografía” with events, classes, games, field trips, workshops, conferences, exhibitions, and contests.
