May 8, 2016

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) partnered one more yesterday with the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in the United States to present the very best of the Dominican Republic during the 2016 Around the World Embassy Tour, a signature annual event in Washington, DC part of the Passport DC initiative.

The Embassy of the Dominican Republic opened their doors Saturday May 7 from
10am to 4pm to more than 8,000 DC visitors and residents for this event. As in previous years, GFDD/Funglode showcased their many programs promoting sustainability and the environment, technology, education, cultural heritage, and internships and scholarships; including the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), InteRDom, the Global Dominican Academic Exchange, the Fellows Program, and the Collaboration with the UN.

GFDD reaches out to the Dominican
community and to all those interested in the Dominican culture as a part of its mission to promote the understanding and appreciation of the Dominican culture, values and heritage, explains Natasha Despotovic, GFDD Executive Director. “Annual events such as the Passport D.C. aim to bring together members of the Dominican community that live in the U.S., particularly Washington, D.C. and New York”, continues Despotovic.

The Cultural Attaché, Gretchen Pockels-Saneaux, emphasized: “For the Embassy the synergy and bond
we share with GFDD is very important. It represents a great support that the foundation not only works with us to spread our culture but also to promote intellectual and educational opportunities, among many others. All those who are in touch with the embassy already know that GFDD and us are part of the same team, and that we work together to promote the best of our country. “
